My Life in Zion

The life and views of a Latter-day Saint in the 21st Century…

Dear Savior – A Poem

Born unawares and innocent

I entered this mortal sphere

I thank Thee Lord Dear Savior

That Thou didst send me here

Learning, playing, growing

I yearned for Divine Love

I thank Thee Lord Dear Savior

For sending those to teach me that Thou art there above

I learned of Garden Paradise

Of Adam, Eve, free will

I thank Thee Lord Dear Savior

That Thy promises Thou dost fulfill

Thou promised that despite The Fall

We may receive Thy grace

I thank Thee Lord Dear Savior

That I might see Thy face

Having covenanted myself

That I might follow Thee

I thank Thee Lord Dear Savior

That Thou art still with me

Repeatedly broken, bruised, and weary

I’ve tried my very best

I thank Thee Lord Dear Savior

For this earthly trial and test

Faced with Satan and his minions

Tempting me each day

I thank Thee Lord Dear Savior

For showing me the Way

Daily spotted, darkened

By sin’s unyielding press

I thank Thee Lord Dear Savior

For cleansing when I confess

O agony of Garden!

O blood of Calvary!

I thank Thee Lord Dear Savior

That Thou didst die for me

It ‘tis not always easy

Choosing right o’er wrong

I thank Thee Lord Dear Savior

For pulling me from the throng

I pray to be like Paul, Lord

Though a sinner, then sanctified

I thank Thee Lord Dear Savior

That I may still teach others that for them Thou didst also die

Help me please to teach of Thee

Of the Love and Joy Thou dost bring

I thank Thee Lord Dear Savior

That unto Thee praises I can sing

Bless those that I meet each day

That they might know Thy Truth

I thank Thee Lord Dear Savior

For teaching me while in my youth

Please send Thy Holy Spirit

To teach and testify

I thank Thee Lord Dear Savior

That in Thee I may rely

I beg that Thou wilt soften my heart and mind O Lord

That my will might be likened unto Thine

I thank Thee Lord Dear Savior

To daily feel mine own will resign

Fill my soul with charity

Pure love for all mankind

I thank Thee Lord Dear Savior

That Thy full gospel I did find

I simply ask, though unworthily

That each thought, word, and action unto Thee I might consecrate

And I thank Thee Lord Dear Savior

For an assurance of my fate

In that great day when we meet up

In the sky with all creation praising fervent

I pray to hear when Thou lookest me in the eye

“Well done, my good and faithful servant.”
